by Jesse Obert, created 07 Sep 2023

This place collection expands on the Violence on Crete dataset. It records all the sites with archaeological or epigraphic evidence for violence on Crete or violence enacted by Cretans in the Archaic and Classical periods (c. 700-400 BCE). An annotation on each place name indicates what types of evidence we have for violence. All the information provided here has been pulled from Jesse Obert's PhD dissertation, see: Obert, Jesse. 2023. “Violence and Polis Formation on Crete in the Age of Hoplite Warfare, 700-400 BCE.” Doctoral Thesis, Berkeley: University of California, Berkeley.
