This chapter chronicles the rise of the fur trade on the Silk Roads and how it contributed to continued expansion in every direction. There is also special attention to the connection between the spread of Islam and the spread of trade routes, especially for furs. The place names in this chapter include many rivers and seas and the settlements that began popping up alongside them. Additionally, peoples as diverse as the Ghuzz, Pecheneges, and Khazars are discussed in this chapter.
